Indian-origin CEO’s In World’s Largest Tech Companies

India is a land of innovators. Bright minds from India have proved their excellence in world’s largest tech companies and made their nation proud. 

Let’s talk about some of the bright minds of Indian-origin who are leading the world’s largest tech companies with their hard work and dedication:

Sundar Pichai- Alphabet

He is an Indian-American chief executive officer(CEO) of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google. At the start of his career, he worked at Applied Materials in Engineering and product management. In 2004, he joined Google and led the product management for Google’s client software products. These include well-known products such as Google Chrome, Chrome OS, and Google Drive.

He also oversees the development of well-known Google applications like Gmail and Google Maps. On August 10, 2015, Sundar Pichai was selected to become the next CEO of Google. Later on 24 Oct 2015, he took the new position at Alphabet Inc. that is the new holding company for the Google company family. 

From an early age, Sundar Pichai had a keen interest in technology. In one of his interviews, he mentioned that he has an extraordinary memory and good information retention abilities. Especially when it comes to memorizing the telephone numbers. 

Parag Agarwal- Twitter

He is an Indian-American technology executive who grabbed the spotlight when he become the CEO of Twitter in Nov 2021.

He holds his B.Tech degree in computer science and engineering from the prestigious University of IIT Bombay in the year 2005. After that, he moved to the US to pursue a Ph.D. in Computer science from world-class Stanford University under the guidance of computer scientist Jennifer Widom. Parag Agarwal started his career by doing research internships at Microsoft Research and Yahoo! Research. In 2011, he joined Twitter as a software engineer and with his hard work and dedication climbed the corporate ladder to become the CTO(Chief Technology Officer) in the year 2017. 

From an early age, Parag had a keen interest in technology. His school teachers remembered him as a frontbencher with innovative thinking skills. His teachers are very fond of him and rated his problem-solving skills and thinking ability to be the highest in the entire class. 

As per Parag’s father, Ram Gopal Agrawal, his son has been very talented in Mathematics since his childhood days and has a keen interest in computers. 

Arvind Krishna- IBM

He is the Chairman & CEO of IBM. He holds a B-Tech degree in the field of electrical engineering from IIT Kanpur in 1985. For further studies, Arvind Krishna moved to the US. From the University of Illinois, he earned a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering. Arvind Krishna started his career with IBM in 1990.

Over his 3 decade long career at IBM, with his dedication and skills, he led a series of transformations in the company and delivered proven business results. Arvind Krishna’s most notable accomplishment is the successful acquisition of Red Hat, which is the world’s leading provider of enterprise open source software solutions.

It is considered as the largest software acquisition at $34 billion. He is also credited for heading IBM Research, where he drives innovation in core and emerging technologies like AI, Blockchain, Quantum computing, and Nanotechnology. He is also selected as “one of 25 geniuses who are creating the future of business” in the 2016 Wired Magazine edition for his solid foundational work on Blockchain technology.  

As per his professors at the University of Illinois, since his early years at the University, he absorbed new ideas very quickly and dedicated his time to work in finding solutions for complex engineering problems. 

Satya Nadella – Microsoft

He is an Indian-American currently serving as an executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft. During his tenure at Microsoft, he led many ambitious projects that consisted of Microsoft’s move to cloud computing. He is responsible for the development of one of the largest cloud infrastructures around the world. He is also responsible for the transformation of Microsoft’s business and technology culture from client services to cloud infrastructure and services.

He also holds the credit for bringing Microsoft’s database, Developer tools, and Windows Server to the Azure cloud. In 2020, he was recognized as the Global Indian Business Icon at CNBC-TV18’s India Business Leader Awards based in Mumbai. He believes in the notion that innovation makes the technology industry and their work “exciting”.

Shantanu Narayen – Adobe Inc.

He is an Indian-American serving as the chairman, president, and CEO of Adobe Inc. He started his career with a Silicon Valley-based start-up called Measurex Automation Systems back in 1986 that builds computer control systems for electronics customers.  Shantanu Narayen joined Adobe Inc. as a senior vice-president of worldwide product development back in 1998.

He holds the credit for transforming Adobe Inc. by moving it from the desktop to cloud computing. This transformation includes some flagship programs such as Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat/PDF.  For his contributions, back in 2019, he received India’s most prestigious Padma Shri award.
