AI For Kids: What is ChatGPT?

Did you know ChatGPT is the fastest-growing app in history?

According to UBS analysis, ChatGPT had 100 million active users in January, two months after its launch in late November. In just one week, it acquired around one million plus users.

Now that I have your attention, just read till the end. You must be wondering what exactly is ChatGPT, right?

Let’s talk about it!

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI, an artificial intelligence and research company that uses artificial intelligence technology to enable human-like conversations with chat and more. OpenAI introduced ChatGPT which is defined as a type of long-form question-answering AI that answers complex questions through conversational means. This language model can answer questions and help you write things like emails, essays, and code. It’s a game-changing technology because it’s trained to understand what people are thinking when they ask a question.

What are the features of ChatGPT?

  •  Writing code
  •  Create marketing content
  •  Content translation
  •  Preparation of recipes
  •  General investigation
  •  Summary of websites, stories, movies, and more.
  •  Create illustrated stories

How do you access ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is available through the website. You can follow the following steps to access ChatGPT:

Step 1: First visit chat.openai.com.

Step 2: If this is your first time, you need to create a free OpenAI account before starting.

Step 3: You can choose simple login with a Google account or enter your email address.

Step 4: Now if you already have a login from Gmail, Enter your Password.

Step 5: Now click on the continue button.

Step 6: Now you can access ChatGPT. Type in your query down below in the footer section.

ChatGPT is easy to use, you just have to enter text and get information. Since ChatGPT is still in the research and feedback phase, it is currently free for the public to use. There is no time limit for using ChatGPT daily, but there is a word and character limit for replies.

How ChatGPT is Useful for young minds?

1. It can Satisfy your Child’s Curiosity

Kids are curious by nature. They have lots of questions about things they encounter in their day-to-day lives. By using ChatGPT, they can just type in their query and satisfy their curiosity. ChatGPT can help boost your child’s zeal to learn more. For example, suppose a child wants to know about Machine learning. They can just type in “machine learning” and the ChatGPT will provide them with all sorts of answers to this query. ChatGPT is a wonderful way when parents run out of creative replies for the questions kids ask them from time to time.

2. Serve as a useful Educational Companion for Kids

With the help of ChatGPT, students can learn tough concepts in class with ease as it provides an abundance of examples to enhance your child’s learning outcomes. For example, a child is having trouble understanding the concept of the “Water Cycle” in the classroom. They can just type in “Water Cycle” as a query and get the desired results in an easy and interactive manner. ChatGPT uses easy-to-understand language and breaks down complex topics into simpler terms to personalize the learning experience for kids.

3. Assist in doing School Projects

Look no further for ideas to assist your child in creating a project on a specific topic. ChatGPT can provide great project ideas and tips that the kids will enjoy!

Here’s an example of what you could ask the chatbot: “I’d like to do a project on Waste Management”. The answer will display a list of age-appropriate project ideas related to the topic. This way, your child will make the best project in class and earn good academic grades.

4. Promotes Tech Literacy among kids

ChatGPT will improve tech literacy and instill a love of tomorrow’s inventions in children by using new and innovative tools. It sparks innovation among kids and provides them with a strong knowledge base about the latest technologies.

How does ChatGPT work?

The technology behind ChatGPT is referred to by the word “GPT”, which stands for Generative Pretrained Transformer. Transformers are special algorithms for finding long-range patterns in particular data sets. This model is trained to predict not only the next word in a sentence but also the next sentence of a paragraph and the next paragraph of an article.

Since the transformer requires a huge amount of data, it is trained in various stages. Initially, it is trained on general data, which is easier to collect in large quantities, and then fine-tuned on data adapted for a specific task that it is intended to fulfill. ChatGPT was pre-trained on a large online text repository to learn the rules and structure of the language; it was fine-tuned with dialogue-based texts to learn conversational features. The model is trained using online text databases consisting of an enormous 570 GB of information from various digital sources like e-books, online texts, Wikipedia, articles, and other writings found on the Internet. You will be surprised to know that over 300 billion words were entered into the system.

As a language model, it works probabilistically and can guess what the next word in a sentence should be. For example, the test of this model is done in such a way by a group of elite team members. For example, a user entered a query like  “Who is the founder of Nike? The team has the right outcome in mind, but that doesn’t mean they get it right. When it gets it wrong, the team feeds the correct answer back into the system, teaching it the correct answers and helping it build a knowledge base for future reference.

It then goes through another similar phase where multiple answers are offered and a team member ranks them from best to worst and trains the model against the comparison. What sets this technology apart is that it keeps learning by thinking about what the next word should be, constantly improving its understanding of prompts and questions to become more and more human-like advisor.

How was ChatGPT trained?

GPT-3.5 was trained using vast amounts of data from code and the Internet, including sources such as Reddit discussions and other related internet discussion groups to help ChatGPT learn dialogue and achieve a human-like response.

ChatGPT was also trained using human feedback (a technique called Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback), so the AI learned what people expected when they asked questions. Training it in this way is revolutionary because it goes beyond simply training. What distinguishes ChatGPT from a simple chat is that it is specially trained to understand human intent in a question and provide useful, truthful, and harmless answers just like a human expert would do after thinking about all the possible scenarios.

With the help of its training, ChatGPT can challenge certain questions and reject parts of the question that don’t make sense. ChatGPT has the power to write entire articles, blogs, and newsfeeds, and even code entire websites or apps. GPT-3 is one of the largest and most powerful language-processing AI models to date, with 175 billion parameters.

Summing Up!

In this blog, we have talked about the AI-based topic ChatGPT and learned about its usefulness in doing monotonous and redundant tasks. The Open AI engineers are adding more and more features to it to make it as human-like as possible. To keep up with the technology it is better to start learning AI from an early age.
